Bland Coulter

June 14, 1927 — December 18, 2022

COMPTON, CA

Bland Sterling Coulter, Jr. was born on June 14, 1926, to Martha L. and Bland Sterling Coulter, Sr. in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was introduced to Christ at an early age under the guidance of his grandmother, America Bolden. After receiving his formal education in Little Rock, Bland packed up his old Cadillac and headed west to California, where he met and married the love of his life, Helen Louise Pitts, on October 23, 1963. The blending of their two families included five children, Kenneth, Gail, Dorothy, Dwayne and Starrlene. Bland was employed with National Lead Industries in Vernon, CA for many years before he retired. In his spare time, Bland, a Master Mason with the M.W. Mt. Calvary Grand Lodge, loved to attend the Lodge events with his masonic brothers. Bland was known to be friendly with a humorous spirit that could light up any room. He had a loving heart, but could become stubborn, outspoken and even ornery, to get his point across. Bland enjoyed listening to the Blues and will always be remembered for his familiar phrase, “I’m fine! Just let me sit here and enjoy my Blues.” Bland was called home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2022, in Compton, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Louise Coulter; sisters Beatrice Baltimore and Leola Mitchell; and grandchildren Jerome W. Coulter and Tiffany C. Burns. He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Kenneth Coulter, Gail Hodges, Starrlene Mack (Robert), Dorothy Pitts and Dwayne Adkins (Angie); grandchildren, Sterling “Too” Coulter Butler (Cynthia), Kasey Coulter, Aretha Coulter, Kennetta Coulter, Marcus Franklin, Vernon Franklin, Michelle James and Ashley Adkins; 10 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; four special friends Richard Wright, Clearease Young, Freddie Mae Walker and Inez Johns; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
