Dennis Ross Zorn, age 77, died from cancer and complications of COPD on June 29th, 2022, in Fontana, CA.
Dennis is survived by his son, Sean Zorn, of La Honda, CA; his daughter, Danielle Katz, of Hidden Hills, CA; his son, Nick Zorn, of Laguna, CA; His sister Michelle Sparks, of Shasta Lake, CA, and his sister Cecile Hester of Canyon Country, CA. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Courtney Zorn, his brother, Mike Zorn, and his parents George & Darlene Zorn.
Dennis was born on December 20th, 1944, in Warrensburg, MO, to parents George and Darlene Zorn. He attended high school in San Bernardino, CA, and graduated in 1962 from Orem High School in Orem UT, where he played football for the varsity team. He excelled at sports and was offered a football scholarship to Utah State University but chose instead to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an M. P. aboard the USS Coral Sea during the early days of the Vietnam conflict.
After his military service, Dennis worked several jobs, including construction, steel worker, wrangler, wildland firefighter and delivery driver, but his true passion was on the road, behind the wheel of a big rig as a long-haul trucker. He stayed behind the wheel nearly to the end, until his illness progressed to the point where he could no longer drive. He was especially proud to have stayed on the road during the recent pandemic, only returning home for a few days during the time the entire country was locked down and in crisis.
A memorial is scheduled for August 5th, 2022, at 11:30 am, at the Riverside National Cemetery with an informal lunch to follow. Dennis’ son Sean Zorn will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dennis' life. Special thanks to Cecille Hester for advocating for Dennis’ medical care and ensuring he had appropriate and necessary health and hospice care and was comfortable in his final months.
