Donald Maurice Thompson Sr.

d. August 25, 2022

ONTARIO

Donald Maurice Thompson, the oldest of six children, was born in San Diego, California on Saturday, November 8, 1958. Donald was a happy baby, always smiling. He started his formal education in the San Diego Unified School District and later relocated with his parents and siblings to La Puente, Ca. The family moved to Compton, Ca. and in 1977, Donald graduated from Dominguez High School.

After high school, Donald enrolled in Chaffey College of Rancho Cucamonga seeking certification as an Auto Mechanic and also pursuing his contractor's license. He was a true "handyman" as he could fix just about anything. Everyone in his neighborhood as well as family member would call him when they needed something fixed. He enjoyed a short career in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and later was employed by Lockheed as a Machinist.

In 1981, Donald married Linda Willis and 4 children were born to this union. He loved his music and being around his family and close friends. The party did not start until he got there. He was sure to let everyone know by sounding the big booming voice... "Big D is in the house!". He was always positive and upbeat.

"Big D" or "Duck" as we affectionately called him was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Mary Earline Jones; his father, Mr. Jimmy Jones; all grandparents, his niece Jaime Brown.

Those who left to remember his big heart and infectious laughter include: Two daughters, Nyleen Gonzalez (Anthony) of Beaumont, Ca., Patience Thompson of Victorville, Ca.; Five sons, Donald M. Thompson II (Maylen) of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.,Joseph Thompson (Sade) of Apple Valley, Ca., Jerrall Thompson of El Monte, Ca.,Jacob Thompson of Mississippi and Byron Thompson of Oregon. One sister, Gwendolyn Carlson of Apple Valley, Ca.; Four brothers, Jeffrey Jones of San Diego, Ca., Anthony and Jimmy Jones  of San Jacinto, Ca., Patrick Jones of Fontana, Ca. Two Aunts, Anna Scott of Compton, Ca., Helen Edwards (Pastor Ron) of San Diego, Ca.; Four Uncles Aaron and Ernest Thompson of San Diego, Ca., Randy Thompson of Los Angeles, Ca., and Otis Jones of Vallejo, Ca.; Two Grandsons Caleb and Zion Gonzalez of Beaumont, Ca.
