Jo Ann Hiltz Wilcutt

Jo Ann Hiltz (Smith) Wilcutt, 86, of Phelan, CA, died Dec. 4, 2020 in Desert Valley Medical Center, Victorville, CA, from complications of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19).

She was born Dec. 29, 1933 in Mexico, ME. In 1972, while living in Portland, ME, she decided to move her family to Torrance, CA,  where she completed school and became a Registered Respiratory Therapist. While in Torrance, she met and married John Wilcutt on June 13, 1975. She enjoyed working as an RRT for over a decade before retiring with her husband so they could travel the U.S. in their motorhome. Eventually they bought a home in Sparta, MO, later moving to West Plains, MO. She also had lived in Calhoun, GA and Panama City Beach, FL.

She had been a lifetime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She loved music, singing, playing the piano, and painting. She was an avid reader, often reading multiple books at the same time. She loved her little dogs. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her “Memere”. She never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her 5 siblings: Jeanne, Joyce (Skippy), Shirley, Richard (Dicky), and Robert (Bobby). She was also preceded in death by her husband John on May 17, 2004, in West Plains, MO.

She is survived by her 5 children, Victoria Adele Khaki (Ali), Michael Vernon Smith, Nancy Jean Coyle, Rebecca Jo Ann Long (David), and Barbara Joyce Parrish (Jerry), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.

Due to the Pandemic Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Justin Wydryck.
