Joyce Evans, born on May 27, 1941, departed this life on September 15, 2023. Joyce a steadfast pillar of strength and grace, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire her family and community.
Born in Pickens, Mississippi to Luvnia and Johnny Casper. Her mother and father would later migrate to Chicago, IL where Joyce found her roots in the educational halls of Harrison High School, graduating in 1958. In 1971, she found a new home in Los Angeles, CA before moving to Anniston, AL in 1998. Joyce was a lifelong learner and with her degree in accounting, she embarked on a fruitful career at Manning's Bookkeeping & Tax Services in 1980, eventually retiring in 1998.
In 1999, Joyce married her beloved husband Rev. James Evans, instilling in her family the importance of love and togetherness. Joyce was the proud mother of Marvin Lucas and Mabvuto Carpenter, and the doting grandmother to Kenya Allen, Prinshiata, Marvin Jr., Antwone, Marvin, Victor, Jamesha and James Lucas. She is also survived by her loyal siblings Walter Brown Jr., Eva Walker, John Stanley and Charlie Casper and her devoted daughter Rochelle Lucas.
Her loss is deeply felt by those who were predeceased by her, including her daughter-in-law Vicki Lucas: husband James Evans; son James Lucas; sister Lorraine Standford; and brother Charles Brown.
A dedicated attendee at mt Calvary Baptist Church, Joyce gave her time as a volunteer at St. Jude Charity and was a vibrant member of the local choir. Enriched with the love of gospel music, her favorites being "Order My Steps" and "The Best In Me". She found joy in attending Gospel plays and concerts.
Joyce had a soft spot for Lay's Potato Chips and Almond Joy, and the fondness for Pepsi and coffee. An avid reader, she found solace in the narratives of VC Andrews and Harlequin Novels. A fan of Steve Wilkos, Jerry Springer, and Tyler Perry's movies. Joyce was also a proud connoisseur of Black Art. Her hobbies included playing bingo, bowling and shopping. She enjoyed walking, cycling and reading. She was always guided by her mission of helping children and the elderly.
The color blue, indicative of her calm and steady personality was her favorite. Joyce embraced her identity as beautiful Black Queen, always providing love and wisdom to those around them. Her greatest accomplishment was receiving her degree in Accounting which birthed a successful business Manning Bookkeeping & tax Service, her enduring legacy.
Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, friends, and the community at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church mourn the loss of Joyce Evans. Her memories and teachings will continue to guide as as we remember the time that we were blessed to have her in our lives.
