Leon Fritz Hammonds, Jr., affectionately called Little Leon, Meon or BOY by his siblings was really an exceptional man in many ways. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio before traveling to San Francisco, CA. He would be considered soft spoken and kind – a gentle human being. He was never quick to anger or argue. He was very closed mouth about his business and his personal affairs. Never did he engage in any type of feuding or speaking ill of any one person.
Early on in his life, Leon earned himself two degrees, one in Business Management and the other in Real Estate. This was achieved once he was Honorable Discharged from the U.S. Air Force. He often said “I should have made a career in the Air Force.”
An example of how he kept his private life private, is the fact that we only found out in his death that he was a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force as an Intelligence Officer, Morse Code Interceptor. He rarely spoke of the Vietnam War! Only to recap, during the bombing of his barracks, he would wonder “if he would ever make it home.”
He was actually quite successful working in the insurance industry, as a Corporate Executive, traveling from Cleveland, Ohio, to San Francisco, California and then living for several years in Hawaii.
He was an avid reader and sports enthusiast who knew all the stats for any given player, (in his lifetime) especially college and professional football. He was never a man looking for any type of fanfare!
PS: My children and grandchildren would always say “why does Uncle Leon always use such Big words. I would simply reply……cause that’s who he is!!
