On Monday, March 3, 1930, MacArthur E. Harris, who was given the birth name of MacArthur Elliot, was born in Somerset, Louisiana. She was a retired nurse and mother of six. She was called Mac by members of her family and close friends. She was lovingly called Granny-Mac by her grandchildren and great grand children. She accepted Christ and was baptized during childhood. After moving from the small town of Lettsworth, Louisiana to Plaquemine, Louisiana, she and her family attended services as members of Little Zion Baptist Church of 223 Desobry Street in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Mac also continued her education in Plaquemine, Louisiana and attended school in the Iberville Parish School Board District, and also completed courses at the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
After graduating high school, Mac found gainful employment with a private catering company, and later with the Iberville School Board as a cook and food service worker before entering a career in nursing at General Hospital of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In mid November 1968, Mac permanently relocated to Los Angeles, California with her four youngest children, while the two elder children attended Southern University of Baton Rouge. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Mac was employed at Villa Gardens Convalescent Facility of Los Angeles, Century City Hospital of West Los Angeles, Rancho Los Amigos Hospital of Downey, California and Veterans Administration Medical Center of Long Beach, California.
While employed full time as a nurse, Mac attended nursing school, including, but not limited to Los Angeles South West College, Cerritos College and Compton Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree. Mac attended Double Rock Baptist Church, 1900 W. Alondra blvd., in Compton, California, unti circumstances arose where she could no longer do so.
On Friday, September 1, 2023, Mac departed this Earthly Realm of the material world and transitioned into the spiritual life to join her Heavenly Father in paradise. Mac was preceded in her transitioning by her father Arthur Elliot Sr., (1890-1978); mother Susie W. Elliot (1899-1992); five of her siblings; Mary Ida E. harris, Arthur Elliot Jr., Willie Elliot, Fannie E. Rider and Mellinese E. Washington; one daughter Maxine H. McCoy; two sons Herman Louis Harris and Clifton Jerome Harris; one daughter-in-law; and one great granddaughter. She leaves her memories to be cherished by two daughters Brenda H. Jackson and Penelope H. Hodge; one son Landry Harris; one sibling Roosevelt Elliot; and sister-in-law Elaine Elliot; 16 nieces and nephews; and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
