Sharon Lee Broderick

It is with love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved teacher, Mrs. Sharon L. Broderick, age 80. Mrs. Broderick passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, due to natural causes.

Mrs. Broderick was a lifelong educator and an expert in Montessori education. She was the founder and Head of Broderick Montessori School in Dana Point, California, which she ran from 1994 to 2015. She shaped the lives of hundreds of children and families through her 50+ year career as an educator in Southern California. Mrs. Broderick was committed to the arts and a poetry lover, and lent her time generously to her church and as a hospice volunteer.

Mrs. Broderick is survived by her husband of 17 years, Kenneth Koonce, and was previously married to Dr. Joseph Broderick for 24 years before his death. She is also survived by her two children, Daniel Payton (Carol) and Amanda Hamaker (Jeffrey), her grandsons Jacob Payton, Zachary Payton, Harry Hamaker, and Rocky Hamaker, and her great grandchildren Jonah Payton and Adeline Payton. She is also remembered with love and admiration by the Broderick family.

A service has not been scheduled for Mrs. Broderick, per her wishes, and the family requests that appreciation for her life be celebrated personally and among her friends, family and admirers. Please raise a toast to her, and buy pink roses for your own enjoyment, in her honor.
