Troy Cornelius Dixson

d. August 10, 2022

LOS ANGELES

Troy Cornelius Dixson was born on December 14, 1930 to Elijah Dixson and Bessie Stringer in Rockport, Mississippi. Troy was a happy child and enjoyed working the farm. Troy learned to operate a tractor at the young age of eight. Troy was always independent and was a great help to his family. Troy received his early education at Taylorville Grade School, and was introduced to Christ at Taylorville Church. When Troy was sixteen his mother became ill and was hospitalized. Troy along with his older sister Rose were welcomed to stay with his Uncle Boyd and Aunt Malissa Stringer in Brandon, Mississippi. Troy spent his remaining teenage years working the farm along with his cousin's M.R., J.L., Ebert (Boyd Jr.), James (Pap), Roy and Faye Stringer, who became more like siblings. Troy was employed at the aluminum plant as a machine operator manufacturing cookware where in Mr. Troy met and married Janie V. Qualls in 1957. The couple moved to California in 1960 where Troy worked as a machine operator for Bedline Co and Norris Aircraft. Troy was a hard worker and motivated to start his own business. In 1968, Troy opened T & J record shop in the Los Angeles area. Two years later he purchased a Big Rig and worked in transportation. Troy was not only passionate about owning business and property, but believed in helping others make a way for themselves. Troy helped several family members and friends migrate from Mississippi to California. He and his wife assisted them with housing, jobs and transportation.

As Troy continued to maintain business, he became a  member of the Masonic Lodge No. 73 on January 16, 1971. Those that knew him, would often say he was a character with a real sense of humor. He would turn a serious lesson into a comedy bit, but his greatest joy was taking care of his family. Troy retired in the early 90's to care for his ailing wife Janie. Troy remained by her side until her passing in May of 1995. Although retired you could always find him helping someone with home repairs or caring for family and neighbors. Troy loved to cook and stayed busy. At the ripe age of ninety one, Troy went home to be with the Lord. He would say "I've lived a good long life and I'm satisfied".
